Empowering East Africa’s
plant breeding revolution

AfriGene Harvest (AGH) — a mission-driven African startup bridging gaps in modern breeding, lab infrastructure, and climate-resilient seed access.

Mission & Purpose

Sub-Saharan Africa faces persistent low crop productivity, yield gaps, and rising food insecurity. AGH bridges critical gaps — from skilled expertise to lab research facilities — driving equitable access to high-quality improved seeds.

We empower the next generation of African researchers with cutting-edge plant breeding tools: genomics, CRISPR-Cas, speed breeding, and AI-driven breeding pipelines. Through strategic partnerships, we facilitate access to laboratory facilities, consumables, sequencing platforms, and best research practices.

60%+
of smallholder farmers in East Africa lack access to modern seed varieties

AGH aims to reduce yield gaps by strengthening seed systems & capacity building

Our Core Approach

  • Training & mentorship — modern plant breeding tools
  • Access to lab & research facilities + biotech supplies
  • Technical support for seed producers & quality assurance
  • Sustainable international partnerships & open innovation
  • AI-driven breeding analytics & genomic selection
Science-driven, impact-focused

Why East Africa Needs AGH

Ethiopia and the greater East African region face a widening gap in modern breeding expertise, limited access to lab consumables, advanced research facilities, and high-throughput genotyping platforms. Most smallholder farmers still rely on low-productivity landraces due to lack of climate-resilient improved seeds. AfriGene Harvest bridges these gaps — through hands-on training, infrastructure facilitation, and seed system strengthening — ensuring food security in the face of climate volatility.
